It is made up of the departments of San Martin, Junín, Santa Rosa, La Paz and Rivadavia, and represent the largest wine region in the country; Has about seventy thousand hectares dedicated to this activity. In addition, the olive growing, fruit growing and beekeeping activities have been developed. It is a plain area receiving waters of Tunuyán River and part of Mendoza River. Its viticulture of plain is settled between 750 meters, in the highest areas, and 650 meters above sea level. This region has a warm weather and a regime superior to 2,200 hours of sun in the period of 210 days, favorable for the vegetative development, which allows the optimal maturation of the cultivated varieties. Its soils are from wind power, rich in potassium. There are some plots of saline soils.

The region is made up of the departments of Tunuyán, Tupungato and San Carlos, in the Center-West of Mendoza, between 33º5′ and 35º South latitude. The altitude at which the vineyards of the Valle de Uco are established drops from 1,500 meters, in Old Tupungato, to 860 meters above sea level, in the city of Tunuyán.

Its climate is temperate with harsh winters and hot summers with cool nights. The average annual temperature is 14.2º C. It has around 13,000 hectares of vineyards, at the foot of the foothills of the Andes Mountains. The region is characterized by its aptitude for the production of a quality raw material, both for obtaining white and red wines, and the good acidity achieved by the grapes allows the Valle de Uco wines to be suitable for prolonged aging.
